This wiki is intended to help members of the law school academic support community share ideas and resources.  

To view this site and it's pages, you must be part of the asp-l listserv.  You must also register for as a user of this wiki and be confirmed as part of the asp-l community.  You won't be able to read any of the pages until an administrator has confirmed that you are part of the asp-l community.

This wiki is your wiki.  Add what you want, request what you want to the list, make this wiki work for you.




===== Register, Confirm, and Contribute =====

==== Instructions ====


  - Register for wiki:
    * Go to www.lawschoolacademicsupport.com
    * Click login in the upper right corner.
    * Click register below the login boxes.
    * Fill out the information and click register.
  - Confirm (that you are an AS professional and not a student):
    * Forward any email you have received from the wiki to Hillary (prof@hillaryburgess.com) to identify yourself as a member of the ASP community.  Include your wiki username in your email.
    * If you are not a member of the ASP listserv, 
        * Subscribe to the Academic Support Listserv, send the following e-mail message: subscribe ASP-L (your first name, last name, position and school) to listproc@chicagokent.kentlaw.edu. OR
        * Email me your faculty biography page on your school's website. OR
        * Please have your dean or assistant dean certify that you are responsible for academic support and you are not a student and mail it to Hillary Burgess, 121 Hofstra School of Law, Hempstead, NY 11549.  It will take longer to confirm you as a user, but when I get the letter, I will grant you permissions.  
    * Wait to receive notification that you’ve been granted rights to access the site.  (Usually within one business day.)
  - Contribute
    * Browse the resources.
    * Identify resources that you would like to add.
      * Add them yourself OR
      * Email Hillary and she will add them for you.


==== How can I contribute? ====

    * Ask great questions on the listserv and then compile the results.  (If you have the question, so do countless other current and future members of our growing community.
      * Add your compiled results, ideas, or materials to any existing page.  
      * Create a page for a new topic and add your compiled results, ideas, or materials.
    * Add your powerpoints for ASP workshops or conference presentations to the wiki.
    * Add a description of your program to the wiki.
    * Identify what you wish the wiki had and send a request to the listserv for someone to add the resource.

If the idea of posting your materials to wiki frightens you, have no fear!  You can simply email your contributions to the tech support person (Hillary) and she will add them for you.

==== What is a wiki? ====

If you’ve heard of Wikipedia, you’ve seen a wiki in action.  Wiki is the software that allows Wikipedia to be an online Encyclopedia (of sorts), just like Word or WordPerfect is the software that allows you to create brilliant assignments, learning plans, and scholarship.  Wiki is an online tool that allows people to edit web pages in their browser with no more computer skills than it takes to use a word processor.

==== What is the ASP wiki? ====
 
The ASP wiki is whatever you want it to be.  Currently, it serves as an idea bank for presentations, assignments, and resources you might find helpful in starting (or revising) your own Academic Support Program.  It also serves as a place where we can record what other schools are doing about any topic you might have.  In this case, people tend to post questions to the listserv, then other people say, “I want to know, too,” so the question asker collects all of the answers into a document and posts them to the academic support wiki.

==== Why does Hillary always nag us about the wiki? ====

With respect to the wiki, Hillary is nothing more than tech support and an otherwise equal member, just like you.  Hillary nags you to contribute to the wiki because she is a new Academic Success Professional who wants to learn how to better serve students from your great ideas.  

==== How does the wiki fit in with the LSASP website that Ruth is developing? ====

Ruth and Hillary have a continuous conversation about how the two fit together, generating new ideas all the time.  Currently, the aspwiki is conceived as an idea bank where you can post (and eventually peruse) workshop materials, past listserv questions and answers, and conversations about program design so that you can generate ideas about how you might like to conceive of your own academic support program.  
The difference between the aspwiki and the LSASP is that Ruth and Ken have carefully conceived of the LSASP website, predicted needs for administrators, ASPers, and students, and is compiling a growing, but static wealth of resources that will be at once brilliant, wise, professional, and abundant.  The aspwiki is more of an ad hoc resource (read: spontaneous) of, for, and by the ASP community as questions and needs arise.
